Day 1 Mumbai Itinerary: South Mumbai — Icons, History & Street Food

8:00 AM — Breakfast at Kyani & Co.

Start your Mumbai itinerary at this 1904 Irani cafe near Marine Lines. Not only is the setting a total time capsule, but the bun maska, kheema pav, and sweet chai are as good as they’ve ever been. ₹100–200. Cash or UPI.

9:00 AM — Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus

From breakfast, head to the most beautiful railway station in the world. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it’s well worth 15–20 minutes to take in the architecture. Best of all, entry is free.

9:30 AM — Kala Ghoda & Jehangir Art Gallery

Next, make your way to Mumbai’s cultural quarter. Entry to the gallery is free, and there are plenty of bookshops and cafes to browse. Budget around 45 minutes to an hour here.

10:30 AM — Colaba Causeway

After Kala Ghoda, walk down to Colaba Causeway for shopping, people-watching, and the buzz of the tourist quarter. Stop at Leopold Café for a cold drink. UPI at most shops. ₹200–500 for shopping and refreshments.

11:30 AM — Gateway of India & Taj Mahal Palace

From Colaba Causeway, it’s a short stroll to Mumbai’s most iconic postcard view. You can walk through the Taj lobby freely — it’s open to non-guests, though dress respectably. Free entry.

12:30 PM — Lunch at Britannia & Co.

For lunch, make your way to this 100-year-old Parsi cafe. The berry pulao and caramel custard are unmissable. ₹300–500. Cash and UPI accepted.

2:30 PM — Elephanta Caves

After lunch, take the ferry from Gateway of India (₹200 return, 1 hour each way) to these UNESCO-listed 6th-century cave temples. In total, budget around 3 hours including the ferry ride.

Cost: ₹800 total (ferry + entry) | Payment: UPI

6:00 PM — Sunset at Marine Drive

Once you’re back in South Mumbai, head to the Queen’s Necklace for sunset. Pick up bhel puri from a beach vendor (₹40–60) and watch the city light up. Free.

8:00 PM — Dinner

To round off Day 1, choose between Bademiya in Colaba for kebab rolls (₹150–300) or Trishna in Fort for their legendary butter garlic crab (₹800–1,500).

Day 1 total: ₹2,500–5,000

Day 2 Mumbai Itinerary: Dharavi, Bandra & Modern Mumbai

8:30 AM — Vada Pav Breakfast

The best Mumbai itineraries start cheap and delicious. Grab Mumbai’s signature street food at any station stall or Ashok Vada Pav. ₹20–40.

9:30 AM — Dharavi Tour

Next, join a guided tour of Asia’s most productive urban settlement. Not only is it ethical and educational, but it’s one of the most fascinating experiences in the city. Book with Reality Tours (₹900–1,500). Allow 2.5 hours.

12:30 PM — Lunch at The Bombay Canteen

After the tour, head to Lower Parel for modern Indian cooking built around regional ingredients. The menu is creative and seasonal. ₹1,000–1,500. Cards and UPI.

2:30 PM — Bandra

From Lower Parel, make your way north to Mumbai’s coolest neighbourhood. Walk the Bandstand promenade, see Shah Rukh Khan’s house (Mannat), browse boutiques on Hill Road, and then stop for coffee at Blue Tokai or Third Wave.

Cost: ₹200–400 for coffee and snacks | Payment: UPI

4:30 PM — Pani Puri at Elco

Before sunset, stop at the most famous pani puri stall in Mumbai. There’s always a queue — but it’s absolutely worth it. ₹60–80. Bandra West.

6:00 PM — Carter Road Sunset

Finally, end the afternoon at Bandra’s sunset promenade. Between the street food vendors, joggers, and golden light over the Arabian Sea, it’s one of the most atmospheric spots in the city. Free.

8:00 PM — Dinner & Nightlife

To close out your Mumbai itinerary, try Pali Village Café for casual European-Indian (₹600–900), or head to Lower Parel / Bandra for cocktails at Woodside Inn, Slink & Bardot, or Toit.
