Where to Eat in Agra: Mughlai, Petha & Taj-View Dining
Table of Contents
If you’re wondering where to eat in Agra, the food scene is smaller and simpler than Delhi’s, but it has its own specialties worth seeking out. The Mughlai tradition gives you excellent kebabs and biryanis. The petha (translucent crystallised pumpkin sweet) is Agra’s signature — you’ll see shops everywhere near the Taj. And a growing number of rooftop restaurants offer the luxury of eating with the Taj Mahal as your backdrop.
Agra Specialties
Petha — Agra’s most famous export. A translucent, crystallised pumpkin sweet in flavours like plain, angoori (grape-sized), kesar (saffron), and paan. Panchhi Petha on Noori Gate is the most trusted brand. ₹100–300 per box. UPI accepted. Buy it here, not from vendors outside the Taj.
Bedai & Jalebi — Agra’s version of bedmi puri — fried bread with spiced lentil filling, served with aloo ki sabzi and hot jalebi. The combination is the city’s favourite breakfast. Found at street stalls near Sadar Bazaar. ₹50–80. Cash.
Dalmoth — A savoury lentil and nut snack mix that’s an Agra specialty. Makes a good edible souvenir. ₹100–200 per pack.
