Day 1: Heritage Kolkata

Walk across Kolkata’s iconic cantilever bridge as the Mullick Ghat flower market comes alive below. Photography enthusiasts, this is your moment. Free.
9:00 AM — Kumartuli
The artisan quarter where Durga Puja idols are sculpted by hand. Walk through narrow studios watching craftsmen shape clay. 45 minutes–1 hour. Free.
10:30 AM — Indian Museum
Asia’s oldest museum. Egyptian mummies, Gandhara sculptures, and a vast natural history collection. ₹500 (foreigner). 1.5 hours.
12:30 PM — Lunch: Kathi Roll at Nizam’s
New Market. The birthplace of the kathi roll. Egg-mutton roll + a lime soda. ₹80–140. Cash or UPI.
1:30 PM — College Street & Indian Coffee House
The world’s largest secondhand book market. Browse for an hour, then coffee (₹30–50) at the Indian Coffee House where generations of intellectuals have debated.
3:30 PM — Victoria Memorial
Kolkata’s most impressive monument. The marble building glows in late afternoon light. The museum and gardens deserve 1.5–2 hours.

A riverside pavilion with Palladian columns. Peaceful, good for photos, and a gateway to a Hooghly boat ride (₹50–100).
11:30 AM — Phuchka Break
Find a street vendor near Gariahat or Vivekananda Park and eat Kolkata’s famous phuchka. ₹20–40.
12:00 PM — South Park Street Cemetery
A peaceful colonial-era graveyard with ornate tombs dating to the 1700s. Surprisingly atmospheric and beautiful. Free. 30 minutes.
12:30 PM — Lunch at Paramount
College Street institution since the 1930s. Cold coffee and cheap comfort food. ₹100–200.
2:00 PM — St. Paul’s Cathedral & Maidan
A grand Gothic cathedral and the huge open green space of the Maidan. Walk, breathe, and watch cricket matches and kite flyers. Free.
4:00 PM — Mother Teresa’s House
The Missionaries of Charity headquarters on AJC Bose Road. A small museum and her simple tomb. Free. Moving and humbling. 30–45 minutes.
5:30 PM — Nolen Gur Sandesh (Winter Only)
If visiting December–February, get date palm jaggery sweets from Nalin Chandra Das or Balaram Mullick. Seasonal and unmissable. ₹40–80.
7:00 PM — Dinner
Oh! Calcutta for polished Bengali (₹700–1,200) or Bohemian on Park Street for European-Indian fine dining (₹2,000–3,500).
